How IVF Due Dates Are Calculated
In natural conception, the exact date of fertilization is usually unknown. In IVF and other assisted reproductive technology (ART) pregnancies, however, the timeline is known precisely. This makes IVF due date calculations the most accurate method available. The calculation depends on the developmental stage of the embryo at transfer:Day 5 Blastocyst Transfer:
EDD = Transfer Date + 261 days (or 266 - 5)
Day 3 Cleavage-Stage Transfer:
EDD = Transfer Date + 263 days (or 266 - 3)
Understanding IVF Gestational Age
When your fertility clinic communicates with your obstetrician, they convert your IVF dates to an equivalent LMP date. This allows all prenatal care to follow the standard gestational age framework:On the day of a Day 5 transfer, your equivalent gestational age is 2 weeks and 5 days (2w5d).
On the day of a Day 3 transfer, your equivalent gestational age is 2 weeks and 3 days (2w3d).
